Iowa Arts Summit

OVERVIEW

The Youth Art Team and all 53 butterflies were featured artists at the 2016 Iowa Arts Summit in Des Moines, Iowa.

When the Urban Intervention project was complete, the Cedar Valley Arboretum welcomed the butterfly sculptures to their gardens where they could rest until the summit. There the butterflies received baths before loading onto a semi truck and a box truck to make the trip to Des Moines.

Eleven core Youth Art Team students traveled to the summit where we represented our community and the one hundred young artists who created butterflies. We presented to adult artists and leaders from around the state in the Flashes of Iowa Innovation session, a series of innovative and exciting ideas for the arts in the state from Iowa organizations and communities.

The team met artists at the opening reception at Hoyt Sherman Place, attended the Governor’s Arts Awards, checked out the Science Center of Iowa, and did plenty of swimming at the hotel. Check out more about our trip to the Iowa Arts Summit.

Youth Art Team is grateful for our community’s openness to this project and for all of the partners who helped the our team and the butterflies earn this invitation to the Iowa Arts Summit. We appreciate you!
